Invest Nova Scotia empowers businesses of all sizes to leverage the province’s natural advantages and deliver world-class solutions for Canada and global markets, focusing on three key areas of economic growth: investment attraction, start-up and scale-up, and export and market diversification. This is a rare opportunity to help Nova Scotia become an economic success story, turning local potential into lasting prosperity.
Invest Nova Scotia’s team is as innovative and energetic as the clients we serve. We are a client-and people-centric organization and care deeply about the work we do, guided by our values and our passion to help the companies we work with succeed. During this time of growth, we are adding depth and capability to our executive team.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the executive leadership team and a strategic partner in advancing Invest Nova Scotia’s exciting mandate. The CFO is responsible for the financial leadership of the organization and accountable for guiding strategy, planning, budgeting, reporting, investment, risk management, and compliance. The CFO also oversees investment strategies, fund management, and the financial components of venture capital investments and incentive programs. They are as comfortable in boardrooms as they are in diverse workplaces across the province and around the world. They embrace opportunities to provide financial insight into productivity improvement initiatives, innovation support, and multi-sectoral growth strategies. With a deep understanding of both financial management and organizational dynamics, the CFO ensures long-term financial sustainability and operational excellence. You will guide a capable team, strengthen systems and processes, and help build a culture centered on innovation, accountability, and service.
The ideal candidate is a financial executive with a bachelor’s degree in a related field, a CPA designation, at least 10 years of progressive finance leadership experience, including five years in a senior leadership role, and strong business acumen, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills. A master’s degree and experience working in a government-funded or regulated business are considered assets. With exceptional communication and relationship-building abilities, the CFO is a trusted advisor, an inspirational and collaborative leader, and a catalyst for continuous improvement. They bring sound judgment, high ethical standards, and a commitment to developing successful businesses and high-performing teams. The CFO works alongside passionate, forward-thinking leaders in a mission-focused organization, with the ability to make a real and lasting impact across the province.
